Home Office International Operations (HOIO) operates in more than 40 countries globally, leveraging its customs and immigration expertise in locations of strategic importance to tackle UK-facing serious and organised crime threats.  The successful candidate will work as part of the HOIO team at the British High Commission Islamabad.

HOIO Islamabad are recruiting for a Country Based International Liaison Assistant (ILA) to work alongside and provide administrative support to the International Liaison Officers and Manager in their role and will be required to engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Roles and responsibilities that a jobholder will be expected to achieve:

  • Providing administrative and organisational support to the International Liaison Manager (ILM) and International Liaison Officers (ILO) as necessary.
  • Maintaining HOIO records.
  • Conducting verification checks against relevant databases and local establishments as required and with the agreement of the ILO/ILM.
  • Carrying out compliance research as necessary and reporting on findings.
  • Replying to correspondence and handling allegations received by HOIO in accordance with relevant legislation, disseminating information where required, and identifying and alerting to the ILO/ILM when further action is required.
  • Handling sensitive material with the upmost regard for protecting information and confidentiality.
  • Management of team email inbox, ensuring all enquiries are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Organising regional travel, internal and external meetings/conferences in consultation with ILO/ILM.
  • The job holder will likely be required to travel, sometimes at short notice, within the region and occasionally overseas.

Learning and development opportunities:

The successful applicant will receive training on relevant IT systems and processes to carry out functions, as well as being able to avail of the FCDO’s learning and development program.  HOIO will also support the candidate to achieve IPP accreditation.

Essential on arrival:

  • IT literacy, a good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and Power Point is essential.
  • Occasionally the position may require the jobholder to work extended hours or work flexibly, sometimes at short notice; this may include some regional and international travel.
  • The ability to work effectively within a small team.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of the wider embassy structure, in accordance with embassy values, contributing to wider corporate life.

Language Requirements:

  • Language: English and Urdu
  • Level of language required: Fluent written and spoken

Desirable:   

  • Previous law enforcement and/or international engagement experience with an overseas mission;
  • Previous administrative experience;
  • Good knowledge of Pakistani government/civil service structures.
  • Knowledge of the UK National Intelligence Model and relevant UK legislation.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of the travel industry, aviation and/or security sectors.
  • Professionalisation (IPP) accreditation or willingness to work towards this within the initial 12 months of employment commencing.

For BHC candidates, the Country Based Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.

For other than BHC candidates the basic salary will be PKR 143,702 per month. This salary is non-negotiable.

Please note that the current salaries are being dollarized and processed in USD (using a fixed corporate exchange rate from November 2022) to provide cushion against the current external market conditions. This is a temporary measure and is subject to review at regular intervals. The payroll will revert to local currency processing once the external market conditions are normalised.

BHC offers a great benefits package that comprises of Annual Domiciliary cover and Medical Insurance Scheme which includes PKR 1,500,000 floater coverage per family for self, one spouse/long term partner and children under the age of 19 or under 23, if in full-time education and not gainfully employed. The Annual Domiciliary cover for day-to-day medical payments is up to PKR 200,000 per family (basis actual bills submission).

 Additionally, The British High Commission contributes to a retirement provision in the form of a mandatory provident fund.
