An overview:
The British Consulate in Spain is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Intern for its Department for Business and Trade (DBT) team in Madrid specifically in the Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) team.
The DBT is the UK Government organisation that helps UK-based companies to sell their products and services in Spain and other international markets. The DBT also assists overseas companies to bring high-quality investment to the UK’s economy. Our new intern will mainly support DBT’s work to encourage increased Spanish investment in the UK (FDI) however the intern will have the opportunity to collaborate with the wider trade team supporting British exporters to Spain.
The candidate selected will have the chance to join a multinational/multicultural environment that will allow them to learn and get excellent experience in the DBT. They will work mainly in a support role with many opportunities to work in areas such as event management, relationship with companies, business reporting and social media communications. This is a good opportunity to put into practice and broaden their business and communication skills.
The role entails:
1) Providing effective support to the Inward Investment team in promoting the UK to Spanish companies as the most attractive location for inward investment and by providing them with relevant information and contacts to assist their investment.
You will be tasked with:
2) Providing support to Officers/areas that do not have access to specific support resource i.e., Country Director, Trade Policy Officer, Operations Support Coordinator and Comms Officer).

This is a part-time and temporary internship contract of 6 months (Can be extended up to 12 months provided both parties agree and there is a valid agreement with the university throughout the whole period).
Normal working hours are 25 per week (5 hours per day).

Only applications of students enrolled in Universities in Spain will be accepted at present.
The successful candidate is subject to a confirmation of a background check, security clearance and the successful completion of a probationary period.
The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Spanish Social Security Scheme and will therefore not be entitled to any gratuity from the Embassy based on gross annual salary.
The Embassy is a Diplomatic Mission with tax exempt status and does not collect taxes for other States. Employees are fully responsible for payment of income tax at the legally required rate. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Spain are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Spanish employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Spain and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.

Working patterns: The Spain network has a Flexible Working Policy. Individual details must be agreed between the employee and their line manager.
