Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:
The British High Commission, New Delhi is responsible for managing all aspects of the UK’s relationship with India. The UK and India share a strong bilateral relationship across various themes. These include areas such as Trade, Investment and Prosperity; Climate and Economic Development and Partnerships; Science, Technology & Health, Defence & Security and Connecting our People.
We seek a qualified professional with good financial acumen and understanding of Indian corporate and capital markets. About Team and Portfolio
FCDO’s Development, Climate, Science and Tech department has following teams (i) Science and Innovation Network & Newton and Technology Team (ii) The Climate and Energy Team (ii) The Reslient Infrastructure and Climate Adaptation Team and (iv) The Investment Capital Team
The current vacancy is in the Investment Capital team. The team’s work focuses on partnering with the private sector to support :
The existing investment portfolio amounts to c.£350m across geography and sectors. The portfolio uses investments (or Development Capital ‘DevCap’) to invest in impact funds which in turn invest into businesses that can open new markets, encourage new investors, promote inclusion and support poverty reduction. The programmes also have small amounts of technical assistance for supporting compliance (legal, tax etc.) and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) standards. There is high integration with work across other HMG departments (including working closely with other teams on trade, policy initiatives, economic development and Deputy High Commissions).
The post will be based at the British High Commission in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.

Staff: None. Needs can evolve over time as per business needs.
Expenditure: Responsible for meeting milestones on expenditure and finance; liasioning with Fund Managers to be on top of financial reports (e.g. statement of accounts, budgets and forecasting); ensuring compliance with internal rules and requirements on financial management with support from programme managers.

Working patterns:

Qualifications:
First degree in a relevant subject (Economics, Management, Finance, Engineering) and a Master’s degree (such as an MBA) or equivalent work experience that demonstrates a similar level of managerial and technical expertise in private sector, with financial instruments and investments.
Skills and Experience:
Minimum of 9 years work experience including work in investments, lending, consulting, investment research or knowledge-based work environment that demonstrates:
i) Exposure to finance and investment research, in areas as set out below:

For other than BHC Candidates, salary will be all-inclusive of INR 173,515 month plus 12% Provident Fund and 6% Special Allowance. Salary is non-negotiable.
Additionally, the BHC offers a great benefits package that includes annual domiciliary medical cover, plus a Group Hospitalisation Scheme with INR 500,000 floater cover for your immediate family.
No relocation or any other related costs or assistance will be provided.
Please note – BHC does not deduct tax at source and employees are required to ensure that any requirements of local income-tax law are complied with in full. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g., some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

BHC will not be able to sponsor work visas or obtain/ assist with the special work permit from GOI. Please note – Provident Fund Transfer in and out from EPFO is not possible as BHC PF is managed by a private PF trust governed by Indian Income Tax Act, 1961. The staff still has the option to transfer out and in from a privately held PF trust which are not governed by EPFO.
