The British Embassy Baghdad has a vacancy for Electrician Assistant and Estates Project Support on a fixed term contract for two (2) years.
As Electrician Assistant, the jobholder will provide resilience to the Technical Works Group (TWG), working closely with the Electricians’ Supervisor to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems throughout the Embassy compound. As Estates Project Support, the jobholder will provide escorting duties of contractor staff and their vehicles, as well as providing all around general support on estates projects. This position offers growth opportunities as the assistant takes on more complex tasks with minimal supervision.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Assist with the installation of electrical and lightning systems, including wiring, conduits, circuit breakers, switches, outlets, street lightening, security lightning, and emergency lightning.
- Assist in responding promptly to electrical maintenance requests, including routine inspections, routine and emergency repairs requests, and scheduled maintenance tasks.
- Respond to emergency calls related to power outages, electrical faults, or equipment breakdowns.
- Help install, maintain, and repair lighting fixtures, electrical panels, and distribution boards in the entire Embassy compound.
- Assist in connecting electrical equipment such as pumps, HVAC systems, and machinery to power sources.
- Assist in troubleshooting electrical equipment and appliances, including water heaters and electrical motors.
- Support in repairing or replacing electrical components like transformers, fuses, circuit breakers, and relays.
- Check and maintain electrical panels, switchgear, and wiring systems to prevent potential hazards.
- Perform regular planned preventative maintenance (PPM) of emergency lighting, fire alarm systems, and any other electrical systems or appliances included within the PPM and as requested by the electrician’s supervisor.
- Follow all safety guidelines and regulations while working on electrical systems to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Provide escorting of contractor vehicles and staff from the IZ check point gates to the Embassy and return.
- Provide escorting of contractors on site.
- Provide general support to contractors.
- Undertake all other duties as requested by management.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future and this would be at the discretion of the line manager. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs. The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

- Relevant work experience as an electrician or equivalent, ideally for at least two (2) years.
- Solid knowledge of electrical systems, understanding of electrical wiring, circuits, and components, including how to install, repair, and troubleshoot various electrical systems.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn from experienced electricians.
- Ability to follow instructions closely. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Fluent communication skills in Arabic, both spoken and written.
- Ability to work independently and to work well with others.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including up to 21 days of annual leave (calculated pro-rata).
The role grade is S3, with a base salary of US$ 986 per month. This base salary is paid 13 times a year. In addition, the role attracts a security allowance payable as part of this package. This security allowance is subject to review and may be altered or withdrawn at any time.
No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
This position is for a full-time employment on a fixed-term contract basis for two (2) years. Employment is also subject to a 90-day probationary period.
Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Normal working hours are Sunday to Wednesday from 08:00 to 16:00 and Thursday from 08:00-14:00. The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and will involve working out of hours (evenings/ weekends/ holidays) in the event of an emergency.
The Embassy encourages a culture of continuous learning. Training will be given in the role. All employees have access to the Civil Service Learning platform, which gives access to training to improve job specific skills. Employees are entitled to a minimum number of annual training days.
