The British Embassy Baghdad has a vacancy for a Plumber, job grade Administrative Assistant (AA).
As a Plumber, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing plumbing systems and fixtures within a large residential compound. This includes ensuring that all water supply and drainage systems are in good working condition and that any leaks, clogs, or other plumbing issues are resolved quickly and efficiently.
The Plumber will work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. The position may require working in hot or cold temperatures, wet or damp environments, and dirty or dusty conditions. The position may also require working in confined spaces, on ladders, and with potentially hazardous materials.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Inspect and maintain plumbing systems in all buildings within the residential compound, including apartments, common areas, and outdoor spaces.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot plumbing issues, such as leaks, clogs, and broken fixtures.
- Install new plumbing systems, such as faucets, showerheads, toilets, and water heaters as needed.
- Perform regular maintenance tasks, such as cleaning drains, replacing worn out parts, and checking for leaks.
- Respond promptly to all plumbing-related emergency calls, including after-hours calls, and take appropriate action to resolve the issue.
- Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repair work, including parts used and time spent on each job.
- Ensure that all plumbing work is performed in compliance with relevant safety codes and regulations.
- Order and maintain an inventory of plumbing supplies and tools.
- Communicate effectively with residents, property managers, and other maintenance staff.
- Undertake all other duties as requested by management.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future, and this would be at the discretion of the line manager and Senior Management. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs. The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as and when required.

Eligibility:
If you are selected for this position, we will be able to employ you as long as:
- We can obtain the appropriate level of local and UK security clearance for you; and
- You have (or be willing to obtain) the right to live and work in Iraq. Candidate’s residence permit and work permit, and the expense to obtain them, will be their own responsibility – the Embassy does not provide residence or work permits. - Relevant work experience in plumbing maintenance, ideally for at least two (2) years.
- Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, tools, and materials.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and work in tight spaces. The role requires the ability to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy objects (up to 25 kg), bending, standing, climbing, or walking.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and to work in confined spaces.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot plumbing issues quickly.
- Good communication skills and fluent in Arabic, both written and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages in English (at least basic/ conversational level).
- Ability to work well with others. Team player who is also capable of working on their own initiative.
- Sound interpersonal skills. Demonstrates courtesy and consideration in dealing with staff and other stakeholders.
- Holds at least a high school diploma or equivalent.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including up to 21 days of annual leave (calculated pro-rata).
The role grade is Administrative Assistant (AA), with a base salary of US$ 1,641 per month. This base salary is paid 13 times a year. In addition, the role attracts a security allowance payable as part of this package. This security allowance is subject to review and may be altered or withdrawn at any time.
No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
This position is for a full-time employment on a permanent contract basis. Employment is also subject to a 90-day probationary period.
Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Normal working hours are Sunday to Wednesday from 08:00 to 16:00 and Thursday from 08:00-14:00. The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and will involve working out of hours (evenings/ weekends/ holidays) in the event of an emergency.
The Embassy encourages a culture of continuous learning. Training will be given in the role. All employees have access to the Civil Service Learning platform, which gives access to training to improve job specific skills. Employees are entitled to a minimum number of annual training days.
