The British Embassy in Tehran has a vacancy for a Post Safety Manager, Grade Executive Officer (EO) to start as soon as possible.

Main purpose of job: 

To support the Corporate Services Team (CST), Post Security Officer (PSO) and Regional Security Advisor (RSA) in the delivery of effective safety measures at the British Embassy Tehran and Gholhak Embassy Gardens; appropriately mitigating and managing risk, ensuring the safety of staff and assets under normal working conditions whilst also preparing for times of crisis. 

Supporting the RSA in the planning and implementation of physical safety measures at the British Embassy Tehran and Gholhak compound. Providing operational support in the planning and delivery of Embassy events and managing day-to-day operational issues as they arise.   

Support the CST in delivering essential services to the embassy in the maintenance and updating of health and safety (H&S) equipment and notices. 

Planning and delivery of emergency drills and exercises ensuring staff and families are trained and briefed on all necessary procedures. Assist with health and safety briefings for new country-based staff members and official visitors as required. 

In collaboration with the Secure Technical Services Officer (STSO), help manage and maintain technical security systems of the embassy, including CCTV, emergency communication equipment and pass control. 

Undertaking additional duties in support of embassy requirements.  

Duties and responsibilities: 

Safety Management

  • In collaboration with the RSA, provide physical safety advice including management and investigation of operational incidents.
  • Be point of contact for event safety, ensuring guest lists are received in sufficient time and additional resources deployed where necessary. Ensure proportionate safety and security measures are in place.
  • Alert the Post Security Officer (PSO) and RSA to any breaches or matters of concerns, including damage to safety equipment, gates, blockers and perimeter fencing etc.
  • Help plan and deliver physical and H&S briefings for official visitors, temporary duty staff, new joiners and arriving families and assisting with training delivery to contractors.
  • Contribute to post’s crisis management plans and help plan and deliver crisis exercises as and when required.
  • Develop collaborative physical and H&S safety knowledge via networks with other mission’s staff.
  • Manage any operational incidents with calmness, empathy and expertise in a way that ensures the embassy’s safety and reputation.
  • Act as point of contact for any local safety projects under the guidance of the RSA.

 

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs.

Eligibility

 

  • Applicants must be able to obtain an appropriate level of UK Security Clearance. Higher clearances can be granted only to certain nationalities. For this reason, candidates must be of British, American, Australian, Canadian, or New Zealand nationality in order to gain and maintain the level of clearance required.
  • Applicants must already reside and hold the right to work and live in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 

  • Experience/ knowledge of Health & Safety working practices.
  • Experience working in an Embassy or international organisation.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written) to staff and other external parties.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely, both orally and in written communication.
  • Proven record of strong problem-solving skills backed by sound judgement, discretion and diplomacy.
  • Ability to think rationally and take decisive action when under pressure and during challenging situations.
  • Ability to work quickly, reliably, and proactively with attention to detail and with limited supervision.
  • Strong IT computer skills and in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).

      • Experience in physical safety management in corporate, government sectors, or other relevant experience.
      • Experience using and maintaining technical security and/or communication systems.
      • Basic knowledge of Farsi language would be an advantage.

      Working hours and remuneration: 

      The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role. 

      The salary for this role is USD 3,337 per month (paid into a USD account of a local bank). 

      No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. 

      This is a full-time role based on working 38.45 hrs per week. Part-time hours may be considered as per the operational needs.  Normal working hours for the Embassy are from  0730 to 1515 hrs Sunday to Thursday.  The successful candidate should be flexible in their approach to hours worked as there may be some work out of hours and occasionally anti-social hours required. 

      The successful candidate will initially be offered a three (3) month contract to cover the probationary period. Following the satisfactory completion of the probationary period, a fixed term one (1) year renewable contract will be issued.

      The Embassy has an active Learning and Development Committee, and the whole of Post is committed to providing the time and resources for staff to develop personally and professionally. The 70/20/10 learning and development model is applied in a flexible manner, with extensive informal and formal opportunities readily available.
