The British Embassy Amman has a vacancy for Senior Donor Coordinator, job grade Higher Executive Officer (HEO), on a fixed term contract for 18 months.
The jobholder will join the Education Pillar under the Humanitarian, Inclusion & Protection (HIP) Team and will be seconded and reporting to the Development Coordination Unit (DCU) at Jordan’s Ministry of Education, where the jobholder must spend a minimum 80% of their pro-rata hours. The DCU is responsible for the overall steering and coordination of the implementation of the multi-donor Accelerating Access Initiative (AAI) programme, which supports the inclusion of refugee students in the national education system.
The key objectives associated with this role are primarily to ensure effective delivery of the AAI programme. The role requires an ability to work with a diverse range of stakeholders, including multiple international development agencies. The successful candidate will be confident engaging with others in the international community and the Government, working at pace, and multi-tasking to respond to competing priorities.
Duties and responsibilities:
As Senior Donor Coordinator, you will be accountable for driving, on a day-to-day basis, the delivery of the AAI programme outcomes within agreed time, cost, and quality constraints. You will need to:
- Strengthen coordination: Ensure a harmonised approach among the Ministry of Education and AAI donors in delivering education services to refugees. This will include improving communication and transparency between partners on progress and challenges; preparation and delivery of meetings according to an agreed plan; maintaining a detailed map of refugee education support; and supporting the Head of DCU in implementation of AAI governance structures.
- Support strategic planning: Contribute to the implementation of Jordan’s Education Strategic Plan (ESP), focusing on refugee education and data-driven policy. The jobholder should not only have an overview of AAI activities, but also all other activities (beyond AAI) which support refugee education, including research, to improve coordination and reduce duplication or repetition. The jobholder will identify areas to improve efficiency and effectiveness of AAI, including value for money, and identify possible options for the successor to AAI 3.0.
- Monitor progress and risks: You will be accountable for ensuring the timely production of reports which meet donor expectations and that best practices are employed in monitoring for a results-based management approach. As senior coordinator, you will also be responsible for ensuring the maintenance and updating of the AAI risk management framework, enabling the early identification of potential risks and appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Resource and financial management: Oversee financial, coordination, and monitoring & evaluation (M&E) on AAI processes, ensuring that donor funding is effectively managed to attain maximum impact.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future and this would be at the discretion of the line manager/ senior management and agreed with the jobholder. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs. The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis.

- Managing a Quality Service – Deliver service objectives with professional excellence, expertise, and efficiency, taking account of diverse customer needs.
Practitioner level of:
- Managing Risk & Issues – Identifying when and how risk can be taken; applying risk management best practice; and understanding when risks become issues and taking action to respond to those issues.
- Financial Management – Managing resources effectively; promoting a culture of financial rigour and compliance; achieving VFM, transparency and accountability; and applying robust financial management and decision making throughout the project cycle.
