Main purpose of job:
The jobholder will maintain day-to-day responsibility for the safety and security of the British High Commission (BHC), and BHC staff. The BHC is a busy diplomatic mission, working to foster a close, modern partnership between the UK and Malaysia across the full range of bilateral interests.
BHC staff rely on the Post Security Manager – with close support from the FCDO Regional Security Advisor based in Singapore – to ensure high standards of security and that FCDO procedures are correctly followed. This includes advising on the security context, liaising with our contracted guard force and the Royal Malaysia Police, managing health and safety and fire safety processes, and dealing professionally with emerging issues as they occur.
This role would suit a dedicated security professional with either government or commercial experience. It provides an opportunity to develop skills about diplomatic work, physical and personnel security, health and safety and stakeholder management, among other things. The BHC and the FCDO supports flexible working and provide a strong L&D offer to support future career development.

The job-holder will be required to take some specific training courses related to their role. All new staff undertake a workplace induction and there are a number of mandatory e-learning courses covering areas such as diversity, health and safety, and information management.

Working patterns:
The British High Commission Malaysia supports and promotes flexible working. The standard working hours for the BHC are 8:00am to 16:30 Monday to Thursday and 8:30am to 1315hrs Friday.
We are happy to offer a variety of flexible working patterns, including non-standard working hours, working remotely or working compressed hours. However, due to the nature of the role, there will be a requirement for occasional out of hours work around events, visits and management of guard force. Time off in lieu can be offered to make up for out of hours work.
An allowance is also included in the salary for out of hours emergency incident work and for providing assistance to UK based staff members and out of hours checks on the guard force.
The FCDO also operates an agile workforce. To facilitate this, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as we may reasonably require.
