The British Embassy in Kuwait is looking for a skilled professional to work with the Estates Officer in establishing the Technical Works Group (TWG) as a centre of excellence for a diverse staff base. You will oversee the day-to-day maintenance of estate-related assets in line with statutory requirements and planned improvements, upholding the Embassy’s health, safety, and welfare standards. A key part of this role is to help reduce the Embassy’s carbon footprint by implementing sustainable practices, increasing renewable energy use, and minimizing waste. 

You will ensure the safety, reliability, and smooth operation of electrical systems across office compounds, external residential accommodations, and external spaces, including gardens, tennis court and gym facility. This role focuses on your electrical expertise for routine maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs, and minor installations. In collaboration with Technical Works Group colleagues, you’ll assist and support one another in diverse tasks, which may include lifting heavy equipment as needed. The job also calls for knowledge in AC repairs to support team members during their absences or peak workloads. You will engage with Embassy staff, suppliers, and contractors to maintain high standards, complying with relevant technical regulations and health and safety protocols. 

The jobholder will need to be prepared to work outside of normal working hours on an ad hoc basis to oversee evening events and solve urgent out-of-hours emergency electrical issue calls. 

This position calls for an experienced, organized self-starter with initiative, technical skills, and the drive to deliver high-quality, customer-focused services. You will manage daily operational needs, make informed decisions, and confidently secure the necessary support from your manager and team.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

Electrical Maintenance:

  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and testing of electrical installations in offices, residential accommodations, and outdoor areas (e.g., garden, tennis court).
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults, perform repairs, and rewire circuits and systems.
  • Carry out electrical safety inspections for residential units prior to occupancy.
  • Support Embassy events by setting up electrical systems, assisting other trades, and lifting or arranging heavy items as required.
  • Check and sign off on PAT (portable appliances testing) of electrical equipment. Be PAT test trained.

Fire Safety and Generator Maintenance:

  • Maintain and test fire safety systems, including fire alarm panels, emergency lighting, smoke detectors, call points, and manage records for fire extinguishers.
  • Oversee the maintenance and routine checks of generators to ensure continuous operation.

Supplier and Contractor Liaison:

  • Coordinate with suppliers to procure materials, negotiating prices and ensuring quality.
  • Oversee and supervise contractors to ensure work meets Embassy standards; sign off jobs assigned by the Estates Officer.

Estates and Maintenance:

  • Prepare housing for new arrivals, ensuring all electrical checks and furniture are complete.
  • Manage maintenance documentation, including tracking repairs and updates for compliance audits.
  • Maintain electrical stores inventory to ensure availability for contingencies, following proper storage guidelines.
  • Coordinate the delivery of household equipment and furniture to apartments or residences.
  • Use Embassy credit cards for procurement and timely entry of invoices on the HERA financial system.

Ad Hoc Projects:

  • Support ad hoc projects and Embassy events, taking on additional tasks as required to meet team and Embassy priorities.

Eligibility:

 

If you are selected for this position, we will be able to employ you as long as you:

  • Are legally resident in Kuwait (Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in this country); and
  • Complete and successfully pass all local and UK security checks, including professional background checks.

 

 

  • Diploma or degree in Electrical or equivalent qualification.
  • At least 2 years and above of relevant experience in electrical work.
  • Certificate or at least attended workshop in relevant health and safety practices, including safe work on live installations and fire safety, is important.
  • Experience in IT skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal. Level: B2 English or above.

  • Basic communication skills in Arabic.
  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Recognized qualification for the inspection and testing of electrical installations (e.g., City&Guilds 2392-10 Inspection & Testing Course).
  • Knowledge of satellite TV installations and air conditioning (DX Split Units).
  • Kuwaiti driving license and willingness to drive an Embassy vehicle safely.
  • Understanding of BS 7671 (British Standard for electrical installations).

Working conditions and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of KWD 680.253 per month. The package includes a good level of medical insurance, a return flight fare to your home country for non-Kuwaitis every year, relevant social security payments for Kuwaiti nationals, and an engaging working environment. Leave entitlement is 30 days per year (on pro rata basis) plus 14 public holidays.

There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. 

This position is for a full-time employment, on a permanent term contract, subject to a 90-working day probationary period. 

Conditioned working hours are 38 hours gross per week (this is made up of 35.5 hours net per week and a daily 30-minute lunch break). The normal working hours are 07:30 – 15:30 from Sunday to Wednesday and 07:30 – 13:30 on Thursday. Due to the nature of the work, the jobholder will be required to involve work out-of-hours (evening / weekend).

Process:

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two-three months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates profile and UK footprint.
