The British Embassy in Tripoli has a vacancy for a Security Policy and Programme Officer, job grade Executive Officer (EO). This position is for a full-time employment, on a fixed-term basis until 26 February 2026.
The Embassy is seeking a motivated, flexible and professional individual who can apply their existing Libya knowledge to support the successful delivery of the UK’s security policy and programme activity.
The jobholder will work as part of the UK’s security co-operation team, helping to drive forward activities that aim to improve security in Libya. They will work closely with colleagues in the British Embassy, Libyan government and the security and justice sector, as well as other international partners.
They will play an important role in delivering against UK objectives of supporting Libya in its efforts to strengthen its security through programmatic activity, as well as building stronger UK-Libya bilateral relations, demonstrating understanding of the Libyan security and justice sector and developing closer operational cooperation. The successful applicant should have expertise on Libya, and ideally knowledge of security programming and/or policy.

Working hours and remuneration:
The British Embassy in Tripoli offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable salary of USD 2,133 per month inclusive of all allowances. INAS deductions will be applied.
This position is for a full-time employment, on a fixed-term basis until 26 February 2026.
The successful candidate will be subject to a one thirty (30) working days probationary period. The appointment will also be subject to satisfactory local and UK security clearances.
Conditioned working hours are 40 hours gross per week. Standard working hours are from 08:00-16:00 from Sunday to Thursday. The role is a full-time position based in Tripoli. The jobholder will be expected to be available to work from the British Embassy to Tripoli’s office, and travel using personal transport to meetings in locations in the city – such as Government Ministries and law enforcement agency headquarters.
Flexible working is also permitted, allowing the jobholder to work-from-home occasionally in agreement with their line manager.

Process:
The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around 2-3 months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidate’s profile and UK footprint. You may experience some delay in the progress of this recruitment campaign, and we are working hard to minimise any disruption.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
