The British Embassy in Brasilia is looking for a Political Team Intern to join their team. The successful candidate will provide administrative and research support to the Political Team in the British Embassy in Brasilia, flexing across the breadth of our political work, including foreign policy, the bilateral UK-Brazil relationship, security, human rights, domestic politics and diplomatic visits. It includes liaising with teams across the UK’s Network of diplomatic posts in Brazil, around key thematic issues and includes work on high-level/ministerial engagement.
This is a challenging and rewarding position within the Political Team at the British Embassy. The internship offers and exciting opportunity to gain practical experience in diplomatic work at the UK Mission in Brazil. You will contribute directly to strengthening UK-Brazil relations while developing valuable skills in international diplomacy.
Roles and responsibilities:
As a Political Team Intern at the British Embassy Brasilia, you will gain hands-on diplomatic experience while supporting the Political Team with policy monitoring and reporting, research, event coordination, and stakeholder engagement. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Policy monitoring and reporting: Monitoring and writing reports on local political news, tracking Brazil’s engagement internationally, preparing briefings on key stakeholders, and attending and reporting on relevant events or conferences (within working hours).
- Research activities: Collecting and analysing data on areas of interest such as Brazilian politics or foreign policy, contributing to key reports for the Embassy, and broader UK Government.
- Organisation of senior visits: Supporting logistics for visits to and from the UK and Brazil during a busy year for COP30, helping prepare briefing materials, assisting the visits team with travel and accommodation arrangements.
- Event management: Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, arranging meetings, booking venues, setting up events (branding, catering, etc.), coordinating mailing lists, sending and following up on invitations, and providing other administrative support as needed.

- Undergraduate student enrolled in a Political Science, International Relations, Communications, Management, Law or other related disciplines for the duration of the internship.
- Have very strong command of written and spoken English and Portuguese.
- Interested in foreign policy and the bilateral relations between Brazil and the United Kingdom.
- Be a self-starter who is proactive, with strong organisational, communication, and team-working skills. Ability to work to tight deadlines at short notice under their own direction.
- Have good IT skills including Excel, PowerPoint and visual analysis products.
Language requirements:
Language: English and Portuguese
Level of language required: Professional proficiency – English and Portuguese (spoken and written).

- Previous experience with research and written reports would be an advantage.
- A good understanding of Brazilian politics, multilateral organisations and the Brazilian system would be a strong advantage.

Candidates must have the legal status to live and work in Brazil at the time of applying.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.

The selected candidate will undertake some mandatory training and will have an opportunity to enrol in a set of learning activities during the internship, as well as participating in the interns’ network.
Working patterns:
This intern role is 30 hours per week with a flexible working pattern to be agreed in advance.
