Main purpose of job:
The successful candidate will form a key part of a busy team, which is central to the work of the Embassy in promoting the UK to a Korean audience. The Media and Public Affairs (MPA) Digital Officer responsibilities will include developing digital communications strategies that support the UK’s objectives in Korea; managing the Embassy’s digital communication platforms; planning and producing high-quality digital content; delivering/supporting media activities and campaigns. We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic PR professional with expertise in digital communications to join a dynamic and fun team on a fixed one year contract. There may be a possibility to extend this, but currently the position is only expected to be available for one year.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
- Managing the Embassy’s digital communication platforms, including the official website, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram, with a focus on increasing engagement and expanding reach among target audiences.
- Leading the creation, production, and delivery of all visual and multimedia content for Mission public engagement, ensuring impactful and customized messaging across digital platforms, in-person events, and traditional broadcast channels.
- Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to deliver high-impact media and marketing campaigns and events in priority areas such as climate change, energy, defence, investment, consular services, and Chevening scholarships.
- Developing and implementing digital communication strategies and initiatives to support the Embassy’s core objectives and advance the UK’s diplomatic agenda in South Korea.
- Monitoring and analysing social media performance while staying updated on global and local social media trends to optimize audience engagement and platform effectiveness.
- Providing guidance to staff on standards, regulations, and policies for digital properties and ensuring consistency in online engagement.
- Cultivating and managing relationships with social media platforms, service providers, and key online influencers to amplify the Embassy’s messaging and broaden audience reach.

The Media and Public Affiars Officer will support the Head of the Media & Public Affairs team with budget management.

- Strong knowledge of social media platforms in South Korea and experience in managing corporate social media accounts
- Proven expertise in digital content creation, including graphic design, video production, and multimedia editing, using tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro), Canva, or equivalent platforms.
- Excellent translation and interpretation skills.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Ability to work independently and unsupervised
Language requirements:
Language: English and Korean
Level of language required: Fluent spoken and written English and Korean

Learning & development opportunities:
The British Embassy Seoul encourages all staff to develop their capabilities, through both formal training (courses) and informal (job-shadowing, coaching, on-the-job training etc). The majority of our formal L&D opportunities are drawn from FCDO resources. All staff are encouraged to share their skills and experience with colleagues, through informal training (‘lunch & learn’) or coaching/mentoring.
Working Patterns:
Normal working hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:15 (17:00 on Fridays). However, occasional evening and weekend working may be required, for which time off in lieu is given. The British Embassy encourages flexible working and various flexible working arrangements are possible with line manager agreement, including working from home.
Other Information:
Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy Seoul are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Korean employment law.
No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. All candidates must be legally able to work and reside in the country of the vacancy with the correct visa/work permit status or demonstrate eligibility to obtain the relevant permit. Any costs related to obtaining or renewing permits and visas are the responsibility of the successful applicant.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
