Department for Business and Trade (DBT)

Do you want to develop trade between the UK and Norway in defence, security and space?

The British Embassy in Oslo is part of the worldwide UK diplomatic network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. The Embassy’s Department for Business and Trade is seeking a committed, engaged colleague to join our team as a Senior Market Adviser

Main purpose of job, role & responsibilities:

To identify and act on the commercial opportunities for UK industries in the Norwegian defence, security and space sectors, and then create, facilitate and deliver initiatives that will deliver success through exports won. You will liaise with UK stakeholders, including Government departments, sector organisations and industry, conveying the opportunities that Norway’s defence and security needs may offer. As part of this, you play a wider embassy role providing advice on the industrial perspectives in these fields and utilising high-level engagements to deliver on the trade agenda. You will develop, nurture and grow a network of stakeholders in government, organisations and corporations and act as an intermediary where intervention between UK and Norway will get the customers’ decisions over the line.

This job will be a specific fixed term position for three years, delivering towards key UK strategic campaigns. At the end of the period, you are expected to demonstrate success through commercial contracts won by UK companies in these sectors.

Defence:

The core task is to secure UK exports, whilst supporting activities that will benefit or support large defence sale projects through forging industrial collaboration both ways.

  • Support or lead on strategic marketing and communication plans.
  • Identify new leads and develop a pipeline of projects by looking at Norway’s defence and security requirements and matching it with UK stakeholders

Security including Cyber Security:

  • As above; draw on the UK network to offer UK capabilities in the physical and digital security segment.
  • Identify supply-demand opportunities as described above and deliver on tasks from UK Departments and agencies, as well as UK corporates. Organise and deliver events and activities that support the sector and link it back to the wider UK – Norway partnership.

Space:

  • As a sector with increased opportunity for growth in the UK-Norway trade relationship, you will lead on commercial space activities at the British Embassy in Oslo and link them to the overall science, security and defence work.

Operational tasks:

  • Work can include shaping, planning and executing visits, events and initiatives that will generate leads to build the pipeline, manage the resources needed efficiently and report the outcome of the delivery.
  • To timely capture, record and maintain information from interactions, services offered, and wins captured on our CRM systems or other platforms.

More details will be shared during the interview process.

  • Fluency in English and Norwegian at a C1 level according to CEFR*

  • University degree in relevant field (economics, political economy, business, social sciences, international relations etc.) or equivalent professional experience.
