The British Embassy in Prague is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic, and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Senior Trade Adviser to cover for a maternity leave.

You would be joining a dynamic team who focuses on supporting small and medium sized businesses on their exporting journey to Europe. Our team is part of DBT’s Export Support Service (ESS) offer and cooperates closely with the other parts of the ESS ecosystem in the UK as well as DBT teams located in European countries.

This team acts as a gateway to the entire region, and it will be crucial for you to identify how to best navigate clients around existing opportunities and effectively monitor their journey in cooperation with local market colleagues.

 

Our setting

  • As Senior Trade Adviser for the International Markets (IM) Europe team you will support high potential British exporters in wining business in Europe region. A core element of the role will be to deliver practical support to UK companies. This will include researching market and sector information, identifying opportunities, companies who can provide in-market representation and finding suitable business partners.
  • You will also seek to expand networks of commercial partners in the region, including private sector providers of commercial services.
  • You will be acting as a lead for IM Europe communication team (you and 1 subordinate) coordinating internal and external communications in partnership with other DBT communication and marketing representatives located in Europe as well as UK.
  • As with all DBT positions, there will be a focus on working collaboratively with DBT export teams across Europe to ensure a joined-up approach and to maximise opportunities for the UK.

  • Under the guidance of the DBT Europe IM leadership, you will have the opportunity to shape the activities to support UK small businesses in accessing over 33 markets.
  • As part of the DBT team, you will work with colleagues across the DBT Europe as well as with teams in London and across the UK.
  • As such, this role offers an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge of the UK’s commercial and business relationship with Europe and gain valuable insights into economic diplomacy work.

 

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Support UK exporters by providing guidance, information and insight as part of the IM Europe team navigating them around the support available for them across DBT.
  • Working closely and collaboratively with DBT teams across Europe and UK to ensure a joined-up approach in supporting SMEs
  • Carrying out desk-based research as well as (mostly virtual) discussions with relevant partners, associations and knowledge holders in the region.
  • Develop and lead on IM Europe internal and external communication strategy.
  • Stakeholder relationship management of predominantly internal contacts from the area of DBT Europe Communications & Marketing group, UK Communications team and UK Export Academy as well as any relevant external contacts such as trade associations.
  • Supporting a limited number of business events (trade shows, webinars etc.) and regional initiatives that provide a platform for UK exporters engaging potential customers and partners.
  • Helping to create and maintain strong and mutually beneficial relationships with DBTs export support network in the UK to identify, target and engage a pipeline of high potential clients while contributing to efforts to communicate opportunities in the European market.
  • The candidate should be comfortable engaging and presenting on a regular basis and be able to articulate their advice and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.
  • The successful candidate will also line manage one member of the Prague team which includes day-to-day management and motivation as well as enabling and encouraging learning and development.

  • Fluency in English (oral and written, minimum C1 level).
  • Knowledge of Czech language is not required.
  • Experience in working with Business to Business and/or business to government.
  • An interest in the field of international trade, business and/or exports specifically.
  • A university degree in relevant field and/or proven commercial/economic and/or policy experience.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with wide range of internal and external stakeholders with a range of interests.
  • Strong analytical and research skills including the ability to identify trends based on your own and 3rd party research.
  • Strong organisational skills and experience leading projects including events and trade fair participation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and excels working as part of a team.
  • Self-starter and ability to work well on own initiative.
  • Excellent IT skills, especially Excel PowerPoint and modern CRM systems.

  • Experience with working regionally in a geographically dispersed team.
  • Line-management experience.
  • Knowledge of additional language.

This is a full-time maternity cover position of 5 working days (37.5 hours net) per week. The expected length of maternity cover is 2 years. Working hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 17:00pm with a flexible working hours arrangement. Staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for extra hours worked. The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy enjoys an average of 14 Czech/UK public holidays per year.

 

The monthly salary is 66,990 CZK (gross). In addition, staff receive a meal vouchers contribution.

 

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and 3-months probationary period.

 

The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Czech Republic to apply.

 

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Czech Republic are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Czech Republic employment law.

 

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Czech Republic and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
