Main purpose of job:

Based at the British Consulate General in New York, the Senior Trade and Investment Officer for Future Mobility will proactively identify opportunities for market ready UK companies in the Future Mobility sector to grow, win new business or export their products/services in Northeast USA. They will also work with US Future Mobility or Advanced Manufacturing companies in this region that may be looking to invest, launch into or grow their business in the UK. Future Mobility relates to new advancements and technology across all modes of transportation and as a result some of the new methods of manufacturing this has generated. 

The Senior Trade and Investment Officer will specifically focus on aerospace and automotive sectors in addition to chemicals and advanced manufacturing where they feed into the aerospace and automotive supply chain. They will also be a valued contributor to both the New York and Boston based regional teams. That means that the geographical coverage of the role would focus on the US states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Rhode Island. 

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Provide a comprehensive account management service to key US investors in aerospace, automotive, and EV supply chains (as well as the wider advanced manufacturing sector), that may be looking to maintain or grow their footprint in the UK.
  • Successfully build and manage a pipeline of knowledge-driven projects that have the potential to bring high-value jobs and R&D to the UK.
  • Demonstrate excellent use of CRM system to regularly record business stakeholder interactions and project data.
  • Assist high-growth and innovative UK SMEs and established British businesses in the Future Mobility sector to develop US market entry strategies and/or grow their US market share. This will include supporting British companies in-market to address any concerns around US trade policy or market access barriers.
  • Forge positive relationships with US and UK business leaders, trade associations, regional service providers and other key buyers/partners within future mobility.
  • Develop and implement high impact, targeted marketing programs and events in conjunction with stakeholder partners to build our brand awareness, promote key messaging, and showcase UK competitiveness in future mobility.
  • Keep pace with market trends, incentives and centres of excellence in North America and the UK to identify commercial opportunities and provide informed advice to clients and stakeholders.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-impact programming, including developing and hosting round tables, seminars and trade missions, and contributing to VIP visit programs.
  • Support cross-team projects to advance UK economic and trade policy goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Resources managed:

  • Manage events and travel budgets.

  • Demonstrated professional experience in a business development or economic development role, ideally in a related sector.
  • Good working knowledge of the automotive or aerospace industry, major companies and trends in the Northeast USA and preferably in the UK.
  • Excellent stakeholder management abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and networking skills.
  • Excellent management and collaboration skills with the ability to deliver results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and complete work while traveling.
  • Must be able to attend events outside of office hours and undertake travel in the US and internationally up to 15% of your time.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Legal status to live and work in the US in your own right, from time of application.
