The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for Digital Communications Officer, job grade Executive Officer (EO). This is for a fixed term contract for one (1) year, with the possibility of renewal.

Reporting to the Deputy Head of Communications, the Digital Communications Officer will support the British Embassy Riyadh’s digital and social media presence, creating engaging content that advances UK interests in Saudi Arabia and help manage the Embassy’s online platforms effectively. The jobholder will work collaboratively across all Embassy departments to deliver impactful digital communications that support the UK’s strategic objectives in Saudi Arabia.

 

Duties and responsibilities:

– Digital/ Social media management

  • Support the preparation and execution of social media plans for UK government activity in Saudi Arabia
  • Help manage the Embassy’s social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
  • Support content creation and maintenance for the UK in Saudi Arabia website
  • Use analytics tools to evaluate digital output and audience engagement
  • Monitor and analyse the Saudi social media landscape, identifying trends and opportunities
  • Support all Embassy departments in maximising their digital impact

– Content creation

  • Support end-to-end content creation including pre-production, production, and post-production
  • Create high-quality visual content including infographics, videos, and photos
  • Assist with managing the digital asset archive
  • Translate communications products between English and Arabic
  • Support graphic design needs for Embassy events and internal communications
  • Provide digital coverage for Embassy-wide events

– Monitoring and evaluation

  • Support the delivery of daily press summaries on strategic topics
  • Help monitor and evaluate digital campaigns
  • Track social media trends and influencers
  • Assist in preparing analytical reports on digital performance
  • Support briefings for Embassy leadership on digital engagement metrics

– Working relationships

  • Work closely with all Embassy departments to identify and promote their activities
  • Collaborate with UK Government Departments represented at the Embassy
  • Coordinate with the wider Communications Team
  • Liaise with British Consulate General colleagues in Jeddah
  • Engage with central Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) Digital teams in London
  • Build relationships with local media contacts and digital influencers

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future and this would be at the discretion of the line manager or head of section. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs. The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis.

Eligibility:

  • The British Embassy provides visa sponsorship. The British Embassy will be able to employ you on the condition that we are able to obtain the required residence and work permit in Saudi.
  • If you already have the right to work and reside in Saudi (iqama), you will be required to transfer your visa under the Embassy’s sponsorship.

  • Confident and clear communicator, with native/ near native language skills in Arabic and English (at least IELTS 7.0 or at C1 level under CEFR or equivalent), both spoken and written. Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely.
  • Knowledge of Saudi Arabia’s social media landscape.
  • Relevant experience in social media communications in a public-facing environment.
  • Familiarity with social media evaluation tools including Brandwatch.
  • Experience in digital content creation using Adobe Creative Suite or similar (i.e., Capcut, Canva, etc.)
  • Holds at least a bachelor’s degree in communications, digital media, journalism, or related field.
  • Strong planning, organisational, and time management skills. Ability to work independently, prioritise flexibly, and use own initiative to deliver to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with contacts and colleagues.
  • Excellent customer focus and responsive to customer needs and able to treat others with respect and courtesy regardless of work pressures.
  • Flexibility and resilience to deliver results under frequent and tight deadlines while maintaining a high standard of work.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Strong IT skills and literacy in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook).

  • Background in media with local contacts in Saudi.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role.

Monthly salary details:

  • Base Salary – SAR 9,533.68
  • Housing Allowance – SAR 2,383.42 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Travel Allowance – SAR 500.00 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Total – SAR 12,417.10

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form. Spouses/ Dependants of UKBS officers working at the Embassy are not eligible to Housing or Travel Allowance.

No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

This position is for a fixed term contract for one (1) year. The British Embassy Riyadh employs Country Based Staff in line with Saudi Labour Law. Local law specifies that contracts must be issued for a fixed period (one year). Contracts for full time positions are renewable at the end of the term.

This position is full-time, based on 35 hours per week. Normal working hours for the Embassy are from 08:00 to 15:00 from Sunday to Thursday, with core working hours from 10:00-15:00. Core working hours is the period of the day that employees are required to be at work. The working day outside of the core hours is a flexible period, which allows employees to choose when they work, subject to operational needs.

The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evening and weekend) to support Embassy events and activities. Flexible working arrangements may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies. The jobholder may also need to travel to the British Consulate General in Jeddah.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.

The successful candidate will be required to transfer their iqama under the Embassy’s sponsorship.

The start date mentioned in the advert is a tentative start date and the successful candidate will be required to undergo security-vetting procedures. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances and reference checks.

The security clearance process includes checks available in country and in the UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidate’s profile and UK footprint.
