The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for a Plumber under the Technical Works Group (TWG), job grade S2, on a fixed term contract for one (1) year, with the possibility of renewal.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering Estates services, providing day-to-day management of the Technical Works Group (TWG) and will work with the Technical Works Officer (TWO) to establish the TWG as a centre of excellence serving a diverse staff base. The jobholder will manage day-to-day maintenance of estate-related assets to statutory requirements and oversee planned improvements.

The jobholder will assist and support the TWO to deliver Estates services, with a particular focus on the large and expanding office and residential estate, to customers under the One HM Government (HMG) Service Level Agreement. The role is responsible for the operational delivery of maintenance services, including keeping maintenance records, organising and prioritising work for the skilled trades team, and assessing and improving customer satisfaction, acting on feedback on service delivery.

The jobholder will work on the Embassy’s health, safety, and welfare standards for the benefit of all staff at the Embassy in a ‘zero harm’ culture.

Duties and responsibilities:

The Estate comprises an office building and a compound which includes leisure facilities (swimming pool, gym, tennis/football pitch). A major part of the estate is owned and the leased properties for UK Based staff and a representational Residence for the Ambassador.

  • To install, maintain, and repair of plumbing fixtures, sanitary wares, pipes, and water systems.
  • To have ability to define property blueprints to evaluate layout for plumbing installations and other systems.
  • To identify and rectify water leaks.
  • To clear the blocked drains.
  • To perform cutting, welding, and assembling of pipes, tubes, fittings, and fixtures. (Copper, PVC, CPVC, UPVC, GI and Brass)
  • To perform a thorough inspection and testing of plumbing systems for safety, functionality, and code compliance.
  • To collaborate with contractors, construction workers, and electricians to meet plumbing requirements.
  • To clean and disinfect domestic water tanks and services.
  • To conduct water treatment services.
  • To process knowledge on installation and maintenance of water plants and swimming pools.
  • To participate in learning and development activities that develop personal effectiveness and assist in improving performance in the role.
  • To be ready to attend or participate in the delivery of Out of Hours call out service in accordance with organisation policies and procedures.
  • To work subject to deadlines involving changing problems, circumstances or demand.
  • To perform other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future and this would be at the discretion of the line manager or head of section. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs. The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis.

  • Having college, trade school education from reputable institution.
  • 3 years minimum experience.
  • Experienced and ability to attend and rectify plumbing faults and emergencies.
  • Reliable, detailed oriented, highly organized, and capable of handling several tasks.
  • A thorough understanding of the plumbing industry and code compliance.
  • Efficient skills and knowledge in using plumbing tools and testing equipment
  • IT Literate.
  • Ability to manage own time and workload
  • Holds a valid Driving License in Saudi Arabia.

  • Troubleshooting issues with white goods I.e. Washer/Dryers and Dish Washer.
  • Knowledge of gas.
  • Knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation related to buildings and estates.
  • Arabic and Urdu language skills.

Eligibility:

  • The British Embassy provides visa sponsorship. The British Embassy will be able to employ you on the condition that we are able to obtain the required residence and work permit in Saudi.
  • If you already have the right to work and reside in Saudi (iqama), you will be required to transfer your visa under the Embassy’s sponsorship.

Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role.

Monthly salary details:

  • Base Salary – SAR 4,097.45
  • Housing Allowance – SAR 1,024.36 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Travel Allowance – SAR 500.00 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Total – SAR 5,621.81

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form. Spouses/ Dependants of UKBS officers working at the Embassy are not eligible to Housing or Travel Allowance.

No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

This position is for a fixed term contract for one (1) year. The British Embassy Riyadh employs Country Based Staff in line with Saudi Labour Law. Local law specifies that contracts must be issued for a fixed period (one year). Contracts for full time positions are renewable at the end of the term.

This position is full-time, based on 48 hours per week. Normal working hours for the Embassy are from 08:00 to 15:00 from Sunday to Thursday, with core working hours from 10:00-15:00. Core working hours is the period of the day that employees are required to be at work. The working day outside of the core hours is a flexible period, which allows employees to choose when they work, subject to operational needs.

The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evening and weekend). Flexible working arrangements may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.

The successful candidate will be required to transfer their iqama under the Embassy’s sponsorship.

Process:

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two-three months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates’ profile and UK footprint. Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.

The start date mentioned in the job advert is a tentative start date and the successful candidate will be required to undergo security-vetting procedures. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances and reference checks.
