Who we are and why you should apply:

The British Embassy in Kyiv is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Technical Works Assistant to join our Corporate Services Team

Main purpose of job: 

 The Technical Works Assistant will lead on preventative maintenance and compliance, across the Embassy estate. They will manage three handymen to carry out works, setting up weekly/monthly/annual schedules. They will work with the Technical Works Supervisor and wider Estates Team to ensure works are carried out in line with UK guidance and Health & Safety policies, whilst also communicating clearly with relevant staff on plans and progress of tasks.

The role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Working as part of a team to carry out preventative maintenance and compliance checks on the Embassy and its wider Estate (70+ properties).
  • Prepare schedules and communicate plans effectively for regular checks/preventative maintenance to be carried out in line with central guidance.
  • Help to manage the workload of the maintenance team, working closely with the Technical Works Supervisor and wider Estates team to ensure repairs/checks are carried out promptly and at the appropriate time.
  • In the absence of the Technical Works Supervisor, carry out Health and Safety inductions at the Embassy for new staff.
  • driving and logistics around Kyiv city when visiting properties, buying spare parts and transporting goods.
  • Stock management/inventories.

Estates Team support:

  • Working closely with the Estates Team, in particular on property maintenance compliance and implementation of Health and Safety policies. Maintaining records in line with Embassy requirements.
  • Ad hoc support in other areas including in the wider Corporate Services Team.

You will also be required to join a duty roster, which will involve you being responsible for an emergency phone out of office hours and at the weekend. The likelihood of you receiving any calls is fairly low and you will be paid for your time on duty. You will be on duty roughly once every 8 weeks.

Essential on arrival:

  • Relevant education, for example engineering qualification;
  • Relevant working experience managing or working with maintenance teams;
  • Good command of English for communicating with customers in the property and responding verbally and/or in writing to standard maintenance requests and emergencies;
  • Previous administrative experience, good organisational and interpersonal skills and a high level of knowledge of MS Office packages (excel, word etc);
  • Possess a valid driving license «B» category, a valid driver’s medical certificate, and have a clear accident record with a minimum of 5 years’ driving experience;
  • Be an effective team player, proactive, and ready to learn.

Desirable:

  • Degree in gas or electrics would be an advantage but not essential;
  • Category D1 driving license.

This is a full-time permanent contract, for 40 working hours per week including 1 hour per day for lunch.

The start date mentioned in the advert is just an expected start date. The appointment can start earlier or later depending on several factors.

This is official employment, and the salary is subject to official tax, in accordance to local legislation.
