Main purpose of job:

This job offers the successful candidate an opportunity to work in the high-performing Department of Business & Trade (DBT) team at the British Office Taipei, working with UK and Taiwan government in a high-profile bilingual environment. The role seeks an intern to join our team and support the performance and delivery of DBT Technology Trade team (covering the technology and financial services sectors).

DBT’s role is to promote UK’s business interests worldwide, and the job holder will contribute to the UK’s prosperity by assisting UK businesses wishing to export to and/or establish a presence in Taiwan. This is an exciting time to join the Department for Business and Trade (DBT). Our mission is to help businesses export, drive inward and outward investment, negotiate market access, and to champion free trade.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the DBT Technology Trade team’s overall performance, administration and event delivery.

Core responsibilities:

Performance & Delivery Support (40%)

  • Attendance at all DBT tech team external meetings
  • Production of high-quality and detailed meeting read-outs
  • Production of high-quality research and landscaping documents focused on creating increased visibility of the UK-TW technology and financial services market

Administrative Support (30%)

  • Meeting room and diary booking for internal meetings
  • Transportation booking and expensing for external meetings
  • Printing, binding and shredding official documents
  • Maintaining and updating internal databases relevant to ongoing projects and events
  • Ensuring accurate and timely data entry and record-keeping

Events and projects (20%)

  • Coordination with event venues (incl. cost negotiation, menu confirmation and logistical support)
  • Event invitation drafting, sending and RSVP tracking
  • Promotional content creation for DBT Tech team’s events and initiatives
  • Support the development and translation of DBT Tech team’s marketing materials and campaigns
  • Provide basic technical support during meetings and events, such as setting up presentations and managing virtual meeting platforms

Additional requirements:

  • This role involves occasional travel within Taiwan.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively
  • Detail-oriented with strong time management skills
  • Experience in organising events and managing projects

Excellent Communication Skills

  • A people-oriented person with great customer service skills and excellent networking skills
  • Proficiency in both written and verbal communication
  • Ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders
  • Proven track record of cross-team collaboration

Adaptability and Problem-Solving

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle unexpected challenges
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive ‘can-do’ approach to tasks
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

Language requirements:

Language: English / Mandarin Chinese

Level of language required: Fluent (written and spoken)

 

  • Event planning/execution experience.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams) and other relevant software
  • A keen interest in the UK-TW technology and financial services market
  • Willingness to learn and stay updated on industry trends

Working patterns:

8 hours per day, Monday-Friday

British Office Taipei has a strong commitment to work/life balance. Standard office hours are 9.00-17.00 with flexi-hours possibility within the opening hours 8.30-18.30. We also have mobile technology and offer hybrid working with remote working days to be agreed with line managers.

Other information:

Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. Staff recruited locally by the British Office are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Taiwan employment law. Candidates must have the correct permit to work in Taiwan in order to apply.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. You must have or be able to obtain correct permit to work or work authorisation in Taiwan in order to apply. Any costs related to obtaining or renewing permits and visas are the responsibility of the successful applicant.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.

The FCDO also operates an agile workforce. To facilitate this, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as we may reasonably require.
