Main purpose of job: The British Office Taipei is recruiting a 6-month temporary cover position for the Head of Trade Policy. This role will work with senior officials, regulators and businesses in the UK and Taiwan to identify and resolve barriers to trade, including by driving forward our new Enhanced Trade Partnership. This is an exciting opportunity for an outgoing, proactive and creative individual to make a real impact on UK-Taiwan trade and investment. This role will be critical to delivering the UK government’s top mission to boost economic growth, and to support the goals set out in our new Industrial Strategy. The trade policy team helps bring the voice of business into government policy making. In the British Office, relationships with Ministries responsible for economic development are primarily led by the Economic Cooperation and Growth (ECG) team, and relationships with business are primarily led by Department for Business and Trade (DBT.) The trade policy team therefore acts as a bridge between the two teams – working with DBT colleagues to identify and prioritise barriers to trade and ECG colleagues to resolve them. The team also leads on trade policy strategy, which is informed and shaped by colleagues from DBT, ECG and the British Chambers of Commerce.
