In line with the Djibouti National Development Strategy, the UNDAF and the UNDP Strategic Plan, we are committed to supporting the Government and people of Djibouti.

Context

UNDP in Djibouti has requested the support of UNV to assist with the logistics needed to support the UNDP Youth Forum in Djibouti.
Through this Special Programme Initiative (SPI), UNV offers a solution to UNDP by putting forth UNV’s structure and expertise to mobilize 20 national community part-time UN Volunteers. The initiative will build on lessons learnt from the Volunteers for Events SPIs and allow UNV to assess the viability and scalability of mobilizing UN Volunteers for short periods to assist in events.
With this SPI, UNV aims to support the functioning of the United Nations system through the engagement of empowered UN Volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Office of UNDP & UNV, and under the overall supervision of Event Managers, the UN Volunteers will undertake the following tasks:

• Support the conference rooms, ensure preprarations of the rooms and smooth running of the sessions.
• Support registrations, guests welcoming
• Keep track of session schedule, punctuality, and performance, and report any issues or concerns to the UNV coordination team.
• Attend the induction sessions organized by UNV, UNDP, and the Host Government.
• Identify and resolve minor challenges faced by visitors or escalate issues to event coordinators when necessary.
• Take photos, videos to feed social media.
• Take notes of each session and include it in the final report to be submitted to UNDP Djibouti.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Excellent oral and interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels;
• Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
• Sound security awareness;
• Have affinity with or interest in event planning and coordination, logistics and operations, and volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN system.

Living Conditions

This is an unpaid volunteer assignment. UN Volunteer for events supporting UNDP in Djibouti will not receive any financial compensation for this assignment.
