Job Description

Toolbox Drama is a performing arts provision based in York and Selby, we mainly work with adults with learning disabilities. We run performing arts classes, participant led performance opportunities and Sensory Theatre events.

The Performing Arts Practitioner in Development role is a 10 week voluntary opportunity, ideal for emerging practitioners and performers in North Yorkshire who wish to develop their practice and trial new creative ideas. We are looking for individuals with an interest in working with neurodiverse adults and adults with complex needs. Candidates will volunteer within our existing classes and deliver their own micro-project with the support of the Toolbox Drama team. The content of the micro-project will be up to you.

It is expected that volunteers will volunteer within a weekly class over 10 weeks and deliver their own micro-project towards the end of their time with us. Class lengths vary from 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Total voluntary hours are likely to be between 20 and 30 total hours over the 10 week project. We are happy to discuss appropriate hours with each candidate, based on your availability and your preferred class.

This opportunity is open to all emerging practitioners and performers,
however applications from neurodiverse applicants will be prioritised on this occasion.

Job Requirements

Skills required
Experience in any art form, and at any level. For example – storytelling, singing, dance, acting or instrument playing
Able to work within a team
Enthusiastic and willing to get involved
Able to engage comfortably with a wide range of individual needs
Patient and adaptable

Commitment
All volunteers must have a DBS check (we can provide this if you don’t have one already)
Complete all Toolbox Drama training
It is expected that Voluntary Practitioners In Development will volunteer for at least one session per week for 10 weeks, and undertake their own micro-project towards the end of their time with us. Contact time will be flexible to work with your existing commitments (voluntary hours will be between 20 – 30 hours over the 10 week project)
