The Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF) Secretariat.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Following endorsement of the World Meteorological Congress in 2021, the Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF) has been established by WMO, UNDP and UNEP as a UN a Multi-Partner Trust Fund. SOFF became operational in July 2022. Its purpose is to effectively support developing countries, in particular Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States, in generating and internationally exchanging basic weather and climate observations to achieve compliance with the Global Basic Observing Network (GBON). The SOFF Secretariat is hosted by WMO in Geneva and follows WMO regulations and rules with respect to all administrative policies and procedures. It comprises a small team of professional staff and operates under the overall guidance of the Steering Committee and is accountable to it. The SOFF Secretariat is located within the Executive Management Department of WMO. This is a request for an intern who will be part of the SOFF Operations Team, reporting to the SOFF Programme Management Officer and also work in close collaboration with other members of the SOFF Secretariat team. The period of internship will be from 2 February 2026 to 31 January 2027. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the supervision of the SOFF Programme Management Officer and in collaboration with other operational team, the intern will: 1. Support the coordination of the SOFF Readiness Phase portfolio including overseeing the workflow of Readiness Phase outputs, namely GBON National Gap Analysis, GBON National Contribution Plan and GBON Country Hydromet Diagnostics. 2. Assist in monitoring and reporting the implementation of SOFF Readiness and Investment Phases including: – Reviewing and consolidating semi-annual and annual reports received from SOFF Implementing Entities against implementation progress – Organizing partners” reports in SOFF databases (knowledge management) – Tracking progress and ensuring timely updates on the M&E dashboard 3. Assist in maintaining and updating the SOFF Learning Moodle platform. 4. Support the maintenance of SOFF databases and dashboards. 5. Support the preparation of communication materials based on progress reporting from Implementing Entities and peer advisors. 6. Support coordination and scheduling meetings and surveys for independent external evaluation. 7. Perform other related duties as required. WORK PROGRAMME – Portfolio management: Support aspects of the management of the SOFF Readiness and Investment Phase portfolios. – Monitoring and Reporting: Contribute to the M&E of the fund, in particular in the SOFF Investment Phase. – Writing and document preparation: Support the team in preparing written materials and Steering Committee Documents. – Data input and management: Support the data analysts in the team to input and check SOFF operational data. – Collaboration: Bring collaborative team spirit and coordination to the team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor”s in International Relations, Environmental Science, Climate, Disaster Risk Management or a related field. A master”s is considered an advantage.

Experience

– Strong writing and communication skills in English. – Experience working on climate change related projects or programmes. – Experience working on development projects or climate finance, especially in developing countries is an advantage. – Experience working in international contexts.

Other requirements

– Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively. – Interest in climate change, meteorology, or international development is an advantage.

Languages

Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.
