Job Summary

Harrogate Theatre is recruiting for an exceptional freelance Youth Theatre Leader to join the team and deliver two workshops a week for 11 – 18 year olds.

Job Description

  • To plan and deliver two theatre-based workshops a week with members of our youth theatre groups, specialising in working with teenagers. There is potential for further work with primary aged children.
  • To direct one production in March (rehearsals already started) and one production in July (rehearsals to begin in February).
  • Develop young people’s learning and development through creativity.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • At least 2yrs experience teaching drama workshops to children & young people.
  • Degree in a theatre-based subject, or relevant practical experience.
  • Sound understanding of issues affecting young people at this stage in their development including, but not limited to; mental health concerns, LGBTQIA+ identification, and their use of technology.
  • Experience of directing young people in performance on main stage & in studio spaces.
  • A keen interest in theatre.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with young people, staff, parents & guardians.
  • A positive attitude, flexibility and a sense of humour.
  • An understanding and interest in outreach and community-based arts.
  • A current and valid driving licence.

Further to these essentials, a candidate is likely to have the following attributes:

  • Experience of aiding an artistic programme.
  • Paediatric first aid certificate

The successful candidate must be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Pay is £28 p/h.
