Position description

The Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) is seeking a full-time Director, Climate Change and Environmental Justice to lead ICCR’s shareholder engagement and advocacy to address climate change and promote environmental justice through engagement with the world’s largest corporations. The Director will develop and implement shareholder engagement strategies with ICCR members and partners to drive corporate change and will supervise the ICCR’s climate team. The Director will also represent ICCR’s unique voice within the greater movement to address the climate crisis.

About ICCR

Founded 50 years ago, ICCR is a pioneer coalition of over 300 active institutional investor members who leverage their investments as a catalyst for change. ICCR members work in coalition to engage the world’s largest corporations on a range of social and environmental issues impacting communities in the U.S. and globally, including human rights and worker justice; climate change; health equity; and corporate influence via lobbying and political spending.

About the Climate Change and Environmental Justice Program

ICCR’s Climate Change and Environmental Justice program works to identify and address climate challenges and opportunities facing the private sector. ICCR member investors collaborate to develop shareholder engagement strategies to move companies in key industries to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate an equitable and just transition to a green economy. The just transition framework is critical to ICCR’s strategy, as it can address the interconnected issues of climate change, racial injustice, public health, and economic inequity. ICCR believes the transition must create an inclusive, stakeholder-driven economy, where those most impacted by the transition — workers and local communities — are central in its design.

This position of Director, Climate Change and Environmental Justice will lead ICCR’s shareholder engagement and advocacy to address climate change and champion environmental justice through engagement with the world’s largest corporations. This role requires both an understanding of shareholder engagement strategy and knowledge of the different strategies being used to press corporations to mitigate their environmental impacts on communities and the planet. It is part of the most senior tier of ICCR program staff and carries the opportunity to shape the future of ICCR’s Climate Change and Environmental Justice program together with ICCR members. The Director will collaborate with other ICCR program area leadership on cross-program strategies and advise executive leadership on emerging policy and corporate developments in the climate space. The candidate will also have experience in both supervision and team leadership, and will prioritize a collaborative work style both within the ICCR staff and when working with ICCR members and partners.

Serve as a thought leader on climate-related corporate accountability issues and represent ICCR in public fora and industry conferences.

Develop strong working partnerships with key allies in the field including impacted stakeholder groups.

Engage with policymakers to advance climate policy priorities and draft or supervise the drafting of comment letters on relevant policy opportunities.

Support the continued funding for ICCR’s climate campaigns by maintaining relationships with funders and overseeing the writing of grant reports.
