Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Full- Time Assistant Professor of Teaching- School of Social Work at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

The School of Social Work at Wayne State University (WSU) in Detroit, Michigan is committed to community engaged practice within our dynamic urban setting. We invite applications for one teaching faculty position from outstanding candidates with exemplary teaching who add to the diverse, collaborative, and supportive environment within the SSW.

We are currently recruiting one outstanding candidate interested in teaching on campus and who can effectively teach advanced clinical practice courses and collaborate on school social work training grants or projects. The ideal candidate will have experience with culturally responsive advanced clinical practice and/or school social work (e.g., addressing mental health in schools, interventions, supporting socio-emotional learning in schools, and addressing teacher burnout). The position requires a teaching load of seven courses per academic year (fall and winter semesters). Other responsibilities include serving as a lead teacher and liaison to student organizations.

Qualifications:

A doctorate earned in social work or related field (e.g. psychology, criminal justice, sociology). ABD applicants will be considered.

An earned MSW is required

At least five years of professional post-MSW practice experience

A strong record of teaching experience and expertise in BSW and MSW curricular areas

Commitment to and ability to teach within a social work curriculum

Experience with curricular development

Well-versed in using technology in education.

Ability to engage students in the practical application of social work theory and practice from the classroom to the community.

Interpersonal skills that facilitate communication and connection in diverse communities and disciplines

Applicants should be prepared to submit : a) a cover letter that explains your approach to instructional delivery and classroom management, b) curriculum vitae, c) three reference letters, d) the names of all courses taught and teaching evaluations for the most recent two semesters in which the candidate taught e) a diversity statement demonstrating how the applicant has integrated equity and social justice into teaching and service, and f) a link to a recording of you doing a 15-minute teaching demonstration. Interviews will occur in the fall and this position will remain posted until a suitable candidate is found.
