The NewBridge Project and Dwellbeing Shieldfield are looking for a new Sessional Youth Worker to join us in working with the young people of Shieldfield.

The Shieldfield Youth Programme is a space for young people to come together, make friends, and develop their skills and talents. It empowers people to become active members of the Shieldfield community, through youth-led activity that is locally rooted and thematically strong, centred on creativity, solidarity, social and economic justice.

Young People have been at the heart of the programme since it began in 2021. Today the Youth Programme brings together over 100 young people in Shieldfield.

On 16 hours a week split across 3 days, the Sessional Youth Worker will support detached work, our usual weekly sessional delivery, activities, trips and events-as well as delivering exciting projects with artists and the wider Youth Programme team as part of Dwellbeing Shieldfield and The NewBridge Project, in line with the values of both organisations.

The Sessional Youth Worker role will be responsible for the ongoing delivery of meaningful youth activity for children and young people.

They will work with the Youth Worker and the Youth Programme Producer to develop and plan activity that supports the learning and development of young people, creating a positive and inclusive environment for all users.

Current rhythm of Delivery for The Shieldfield Youth Programme includes:
Weekly detached youth work (on Monday’s between 3:45 4:45pm)
Regular youth groups (two sessions on a Wednesday. 3:45-4:45pm for ages 8 and under, 5:15-6:15pm for ages 9-11).
Youth music project, Shieldfield Sounds, on every Thursday from 4-6pm that uses music as a way to tackle racism.
Heading out on trips and go-see’s during school holidays, as well as taking part in wider Shieldfield community programmes where appropriate.

Job Requirements

Experience & Knowledge:
Experience of organising and co-facilitating innovative and inclusive activities in collaboration with community groups.
Ability to relate to, encourage and motivate young people to nurture their gifts and leadership potential.
Knowledge of issues that are current and relevant to young people.
Basic knowledge of Health and Safety at Work and in the context of youth work.
Level 3 Safeguarding Training (or a commitment to obtaining – cost covered by us).
Understands and can apply the principles of confidentiality.

Essential:
Experience of initiating, building and sustaining professional relationships with young people from a diverse range of cultural and religious backgrounds.
Ability to listen to and empathise with young people.
Ability to communicate effectively with a range of different audiences (children, young people and responsible adults, artists).
Sound computer skills
Ability to monitor and evaluate your work with young people
